If you want use the Rek o Kut as other semi-pro lathes in the way in which God " commands", I would recommend to transform it with a high-torque dj direct drive motor below the platter, but in your case perhaps this solution is very difficult. Why dd-motor? Because you will haven't no speed flutter...
