Re: Interesting cutting issue.

Thanks for the insight Lukas - hope all is well! I suspected what you're saying about vertical modulation, thanks for clearing it up. I would say that it is not the musical content or excessive bass causing issues because i have tried several different tracks now. It was previously just happening to...

Re: Interesting cutting issue.

Hi, Have you looked at your low frequency activity? Maybe some sub sonic issues? If the pitch reading is erratic, I would look into that as well. Sounds suspect. Mark Thanks Mark - low frequencies were a suspicion of mine too, I just wondered what exactly clipping bass does to the cuts? I presume i...

Re: Powering up and down equipment

Im not an industry veteran, so take my advice with that grain of salt. Im also not saying im right, it's just my opinion i've adopted. Thanks for your input - I think you gave more than qualified advice! Personal experience counts for a lot and you made some good points which I don't doubt are true...

Re: Powering up and down equipment

Let's see if this makes sense We have a few thousand components say on a cutting lathe or another piece of equipment for that matter We turn on the juice so as to cut a plate play something whatever What happens? Juice flows through the various components which make up the psu system and subsystem ...

Re: Powering up and down equipment

Thanks Fred, useful to know :) I usually do a similar thing but it is based on common sense rather than practical knowledge...! I was mostly wondering about powering on and off lathes and their PSUs. I guess because I've heard 'always leave it on' by many respectable people and also 'power it down' ...

Powering up and down equipment

Hi- I can imagine there are a lot of conflicting theories here; but what is the consensus on powering down lathes/vintage audio/electronic gear? Do you leave them on always? Power down every evening? Reasons? I have heard mixed messages about this and can't decide which is best for my equipment. I h...

Re: Modifying a Neumann SP 72 S desk

Hi Peter, Thanks a lot for your reply! I've checked out the vintagetools site, some lovely looking stuff on there :) My main issue is that, whilst I LOVE vintage analogue gear [I am making a start in the cutting game, after all!] , it is very problematic and costly when not working, which is my main...

Re: Modifying a Neumann SP 72 S desk

Thanks for your response -I find myself agreeing with you despite my decision to undertake this! Haha We initially were cutting using the Neumann because we didn't have anything else to use. I eventually had to put our cutting service on hold due to connections on the patch bay causing signal dropou...

Modifying a Neumann SP 72 S desk

Hi guys - I have a Neumann SP 72 S console and it had been heavily modded with very few of the original components in there [before i bought it]. It seems people rip stuff out and replace parts fairly easily with these desks. I was wondering, if I am looking at buying some standalone eq's/compressor...

Re: Lathe studio engineer/electrician needed

Hi - Thanks for your reply, only just noticed it! I think your advice is good, drastic but it is the direction i am heading anyway! I am looking to sell the neumann console and replace with something far more simplified and stable. Any ideas where i would find a buyer for something like this? I imag...

Lukas - thank you so much for this! Re: Lathe studio engineer/electrician needed

Thanks so much for getting back to me, Emidisc, any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Lathe studio engineer/electrician needed

Hi - we are a relatively new cutting studio based in Nottingham. We have started up around 9 months ago; cutting is going well and generally sounds good but reliability is very up and down. We have a few important electrical/wiring fixes needed on the lathe that will make it more reliable as well as...

Re: Question for dub cutters (legality)

Great topic guys, I needed some clarification on the laws around cutting certain dubs for people. I'm new to the cutting game but have a specific case id like to share and get advice on: Lots of DJs now looking to get cut rare and now pricey early jungle and hardcore records (93-94) that cost a bomb...
