Thank you tragwag!
Will keep trying angles to see what happens.
Do you polish the PC before using? I'm just applying a layer of "Blem" (a kind of furniture polish for home cleaning, as Turtle wax doesn't exists in Argentina) for lubrication (it does help a lot regarding noise levels)
Kind regards

Re: Embossing on X-ray
Anyway, I tested several batches of x-ray sheets, an simply, most appear to be too hard for my sapphire to emboss. Some make funny noises, or oscillation, when you try to record. Mostly gave up on this now, switching to PC cuts which are giving me the best results yet I did some tries on CD, and wor...

Re: Leaning back
Hello! I'm trying PC embossing at the moment. It seems that the lower the angle where the stylus hits the record (that is, the least vertical position) the easier is to cut the material (but more weight needed), but I think this must be detrimental to the sound. As the point "drawing" the sound wave...

Re: Embossing on X-ray
It seems there are different formulations indeed. I had secured a good source of discarded x-ray sheets, but they tested horribly compared to what I was using. In fact, an audio oscillation, like a siren sound, appears when trying to cut (actually, emboss) those! And of course it gets in the grooves...

Re: Embossing on X-ray
My wife has a lot of them because she went thru many studies a few years ago. When I run out of that pile, I think I'll ask the veterinarian around the corner, that seems to be a good alternative.

Re: Embossing on X-ray
Hi Steve! Thanks, I didn't though of searching "xray"! always with the - which don't help at all. It seems the subject of bleaching has not been addressed on those threads, if I came to any conclusion regarding the subject will post it here. I managed to get pretty low noise at some point, at least ...

Embossing on X-ray
Hi, Well I'm using x-ray sheets as a medium for practice the art of embossing. I'm having great results by my standards, but I wonder if it's needed to clean/bleach the sheets before attemping to record, or not. Is there any info on how was done back then? Could be that the "black" on the x-ray is s...

Re: testing Jerry's steel cone styli
Hi! What kind of shank those this steel stylus have? I wonder if I can use them in the Angulo machine. Currently I'm running with Adamant NSH-2S, but I'm yet to get practice at embossing, and I'm deteriorating the sapphire very fast by mishandling it! Also, how do you clean, if you clean at all, the...

Re: acrylic vs pvc
Good information!
I'm trying embossing now, I'm getting better results without having to worry about the chip (made a huge mess with it). Hopefully I will upgrade to cutting at some point. I had hopped it was also easier in the stylus, but if not, then will that's the way it is.
Kind regards

Very good information!
I assume the same considerations will apply when embossing instead of cutting, with perhaps less wear on the diamond and/or the chance to use sapphire instead?

Maybe the records sound better because you are wet playing them? I believe that's a posibility.

Hi!
How do you clean the records after they are recorded? Or do you play it with the oil layer still on the disc?

Re: Looking to commission a very small record (13mm diameter
I have a few of those doll records, which I can't play because of the auto return on the turntable. Can't get past the "label area".
How would you manage the playback once the tiny disc is made?

Re: Heating coil resistance
I may be interested in building a different heating wire power supply, at some point. The one in the Angulo machine does work anyway, but I'm having some trouble dialing a precise and low temperature, with the Transco ruby. With the Adamant sapphire there's no way, because it appears to be shorted. ...

Re: Heating coil resistance
Hi!
The thing is, this stylus comes wih the heating wire from the factory. Its a Adamant NSH-2S saphire. I think they should put a datasheet with this information, but no luck finding it!
Everyone mentions 7 and a half turns of Nicrome wire, but who knows what gauge?

Heating coil resistance
Hi! I tried the search and also google but came up with no relevant information. How much resistance should measure in the heating coil? I currently testing a Adamant sapphire, and it reads 0 ohms (that's zero). That can't be right. Obviously I can't get it to heat because if there's no resistance t...

Re: Cut turns out in mono (Angulo system)
Hi, If you have the polarity wrong, the head will move vertically when fed a mono signal to both L & R drivers. If that is the case, just change the polarity of one of the drivers and you should see lateral movement. Mark Hi Mark, I did try reversing the polarity, but I never get to see the vertica...
