My first grooves.

Well here they are!

It didn't last long before i got a swarf plug, but for a whole two or three seconds i was cutting a record!

Pretty much everything i built so far needs to be adjusted, as i expected.

3 years work for 3 whole seconds of fun. Totally worth it.

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

Thanks! I really like the 8d series. I think presto did a good job on them. Built well, and takes modification pretty well too. Not that they saw that coming. I got a lot more planned for it, hopefully some kind of arduino cutting computer, a button panel, metering..... Ive been working on the vacuu...

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

Made some real progress with a swarf tube holder. I just cut a piece of lexan out to run the tube through and got a longer screw for the dashpot bracket. Mounted pretty good.

I might soon attempt a cut.

The future of History of Recorded Sound (Len Horowitz)

He's made a short video which is not complete, and is trying to get letters together to prove that HRS is historical, and needs to stay open t...

I feel like there's a way to get the sound your after without scrapping a bunch of blanks for it.

Unless you want the vinyl too.

Re: Questions about my set up. New Presto user.

Thanks. Whatever you do to get good results i would love to hear it. Some tips on EQ would be welcome. I can’t figure out how to eliminate the boxiness of the vocal (mainly). Well, i haven't cut groove one yet. Im still waiting to get my cutterhead back. But, what's your process before you cut from...

Re: Scully going rate?

I'd love that westrex setup on it though.

But damn if it's ever rusty as a bastard outside, inside is scary to think about. When he says "deep storage" he means it!

That's a mega refurb in of itself!

Re: Scully going rate?

The ebay unit however from what i can tell in the photos is missing all the motor assembly, unless it's just not pictured. It's also in terrible shape. It's good kit, that needs a lot of work, and it's priced almost full bang. Fuzzy math if you ask me. But i don't know the story behind it, so im arm...

Thanks! Not bad for found parts!

But the hard work starts now, so we shall see. I think i might try a few different drivers, depending on the materials im able to source.
