Re: Trade: Timex Magnetic Disc Recorder Model 40
I think you'd be able to use 8" floppy discs on these machines if you can find them. Would probably be better than the paper discs they sold for them.

Re: Early K-6 schematjc
Update: figured out which tubes went where and powered it up. Shockingly it worked after decades of neglect. Sounds like crap, so still gonna have to recap but I should be able to get those specs off the original components.

Early Presto K6 Schematic Wanted
So I've got a really early presto k6 that I bought for parts for my my k-10 many years ago. I've decided to get it up and running. I'd like to find a schematic for it, but all I can find have a different preamp section with 4 tubes, where this one has 3. Does anyone have a schematic from this era wi...

SportsTalk players stock, and modified with variable speed, reverse, line out, mute switch and insta scratch switch.

Re: Trying to create a book in the format as the old talk-to-me format
These players play inside out at 45 rpm. They use the same mechanism as the Sports talk baseball card player and microsonics çard player. I have cut inside out records for them at 33 rpm of noise loops and beats, but I modified my players for fully variable speed (and reverse, for scratching). I cut...

Re: VR suction problem
I'd position the vac tube a little closer and lower. I sometimes have this problem with a fresh stylus, but it usually goes away after a few cuts.

Re: coarse feedscrew for Presto K8
Six min per side on 10" @ 33 rpm is standard pitch for K's, 112 lpi. The k-10 has 112 and 224, outside in and inside out, but afaik, those are the only available groove pitches.

Check the inline fuseholders. Make sure the little set screws are tight on the wires. That was the culprit when I had that problem.

Re: Record Blanks for 1941 Philco Beam of Light Record Cutte
Actually, you've got it backwards. PVC, etc. Are too hard to cut into without excessive surface noise. The Newbie FAQ should cover all this.

Would probably have to be screened manually. I don't think an automated offset press would feed those very well. Check with a local t shirt shop or independent screen print artist?

Re: Hi Thread, Trying to Get K-8 Up and Running
I'm guessing your tubes are OK. The 45 triodes are pretty robust. Its more likely the capacitors are shot. They're pretty easy to replace if you can solder. I did my k-10 in an afternoon. It was doing the same thing yours is. Haven't had a problem since. There's a k-8 manual and schematic in that se...

Re: skipping around outer edges
I've found that the external motor will cause the plate to slip a bit and I have to re- level it about once a week. So check that. If you're sure that's flat, watch the head as it's cutting and see if it's riding up and down. Blanks can be warped or not consistently extruded. If that's the case, try...

Re: mag head for GI decks
I've repaired over 250 mono heads now. You may also consider my full rebuild service. I didn't realize you did crystal heads too. I'm trying to do this one on the cheap though, so it's gonna be diy. I might be interested in a set of 1-c coils though. My homemade ones work pretty well but I'm sure y...

Re: DIY head for a suitcase lathe?
It seems no one else has as of yet. The General Industries lathes are the entry level of record cutting and no one really wants to put much effort toward new r&d for them. West-tech can rebuild your x-26 but there's no real alternatives to that, unless you come across a later astatic or brush magnet...

mag head for GI decks
I picked up a meissner phonorecorder recently for cheap and it's got a dead x-26 head on it. Otherwise in really nice shape. Im not planning on keeping it, figured it'd be a good one to fix and resell for a newb. I could just send the head off to Gib to get fixed up, but Im cheap and I like to tinke...

Re: Extra noisey cuts on Safeway plates with suitcase cutter
An airline would be standard pitch anyway, so a microgroove stylus won't make much difference. A short shank sapphire will cut better than any steel needle on most material.
