Rek-o-Kut n̶o̶t̶ ̶g̶o̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶s̶o̶ ̶g̶o̶o̶d̶. UPDATE

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

THIS is an update to my post few months back,REK-O-KUT PROJECT NOT GOING SO GOOD. https://lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4033
20130612_151909.jpg
FINALLY,after a disastrous start on my recently purchased rek-o-kut lathe. Had my FRIED AUDAX cutter head refurbished,re-wound.
Had the Amp overhauled with 2new transformers, caps,tubes,..etc.
pictures ...

after contacting Gibb with my issues, it seemed he did not care or was to busy. whatever the reason, i just moved on...
I took a chance on someone who i didnt know...(SCOTT MITCHELL )saw his classified on ebay for REK-O-KUT LATHE REPAIR.
TURNS out he is a stand up guy down in florida.. fair ,straight up and honest.
i sent him my amp portion and my head...burnt up and in a total mess.
he gave me daily updates on progress ,parts needed with price, ....etc.
all in all it took about 3 and a half weeks ....mostly waiting on parts ordered.
..he may not be a lathe troll but he does know his stuff.
i gave him a generous tip thru paypal ..and he returned it..too much he says..
thats fucking character.
Cheers everybody, im ready to cut some lo-fi mono!!

yes steve you correct, i probly should of said he not a "forum" type guy...i told him he should check this place out for "repair work".
i must admit he does really good coil winding/cutter restoration.

Thanks for the pics, I got a presto head MFG by Audak redone by him and masterscott1 is great! It was in bad shape when it came off my presto K8 was worried to send it to someone "random". He kept me informed of the process and gave me a few pointers as this is my first head and lathe.

I asked him to restore it and he did it all, paint, coil rewinding, and remagnetizing. I was really happy with his service, infact, I sent out my 2 other heads that just got to him. I did bother to test it as I know and can hear he does a good job. Very honest and polite. I would recommend Scott to anyone.
