I recently got an all-tube Aircastle brand "lathe," FOR FREE, off Craigslist. It was slightly disassembled, but fully working it seems. Has not been used for years. It's this exact model: https://lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?t=704.html
Has styli, it seems there are two for cutting a metal one, and a crystal one. Have tried both, seems the metal one works better.
Due to lack of immediately accessible media, my research team has been trying several ready-made, as well as formulated, types of media.
So far, we've tried:
*CD-R media: - very unusable
*"Fred Meyer" store brand plastic plates: - VERY NICE, thank you Lathe Trolls!
*Reclaimed (recoated) LP's (12"):
+coated with silkscreen photoemulsion (pending, somewhat successful
so far, interesting UV properties helpful to this process)
+other coatings/processes in works
*"homemade" picture disc:
+made of cardstock topped with "self-laminate" adhesive plastic - looks FANTASTIC! but not usable. Want to try different
cardstock and laminate sheets. May just be the cardstock is too flimsy.
Will post more updatesas they occur.
