looking for Neumann technical documentation

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

The best you'll find is the setup and operations manuals as well as some schematics. All are available on acd sold on eBay. There are a number of bulletins and white papers. Almost all of which are in the red book from the AES. A few are held secret by some lathe techs. That is all. You will not find mechanical drawings of any of the parts (other than a very simple one of the SX cutterhead's external measurements).

Can you remake a Neumann? How big is your budget? That would be enormously expensive. Especially if you are trying to match the quality. It would take one person maybe a couple decades to work out manufacturing all of the individual components and electronics to the same level of quality. Just impossible. The cutterhead alone would take years. I know...

I would recommend piecing something together. Many of us are close to finishing parts that could form a lathe. Flo has many products as well.
