Hamilton pressing machine old.model
Recently me and 2 colleagues bought a Hamilton pressing machine ... they were a part of a big record plant here in Sao Paulo , continental record plant ... you may have seen it announced here as a M225 A manual press ... though it is an older model ...
There were 8 machines ... 7 a colleague bought and is restoring .. we are waiting to have specs for this one so we can start the procedure ...
1st question:
My repairman says it is electric heated , is this possible , not using a steam boiler ?were there any model like.this ?
2nd question :
Do you know if any of you by chance have an old manual ?or know where can I get one for free (or at least cheapear than 1500 dollars a piece )
3rd question:
Do you know if there is anyone with the mold specs so that I don't have to pay 5500 dollars at RPA ?
I have a picture here
Thanks in advance for.any help !!
Filipe

Re: Hamilton pressing machine old.model
Find another repair man if he thinks the moulds were electrically heated. Don't even waste one second saying "electrically heated moulds" when we're talking record pressing.
When you say an "old manual" do you mean an instruction manual? Has someone asked you for $1,500 for a manual?
Are you suggesting RPA is asking $5500 just to give you the specs of the moulds? That's how much moulds cost.
Check out videos of your local pressing plant "PolySom" and you can see Hamilton presses in operation. You shouldn't need an instruction manual.
Find yourself US $100,000 - 150,000 and buy some moulds, PVC extruder, boiler, water pump, cooler and a bag of vinyl and you're ready to press. Don't listen to bullshit repairmen who have never done this before. Good luck.

Re: Hamilton pressing machine old.model
Sorry if you got the wrong impression here ...
Instruction manual ???
Technical manual ... for circuits etc ...
I thought it was weird the part about electrically heated molds ..
As for you answer ... please it sounded a little rispid to my "ears " I will not spend 100 /150 000 to make this machine ..
As for the molds I asked if anyone knows the specs so that I can have them manufactured here ... because I know who can make them for me ...
I know that RPA sells them for 5500 ... in my post if you read it properly I didn't mentioned that it would be for the specs ...
And yes someone asked for 1500 dollars for a technical manual ..
I don't need to look at polyson to see how a press works .. . I'm not that ignorant ... besides I have a grudge with a company that spent 6 months to send me a simple.reply for a budget ...
I need to know the specs of mine so that I can put it to work ..
That were my questions ...
The repairman is probably crazy , yes...

I need to read your post "properly"??? Hmm OK, I'll try to remember that.
Yes I have technical drawings for moulds.
Good luck with your project.

Making these moulds is not that hard
Making a good fast mould, well that is another story
It is like making a cake from a recipe,
No doubt a good engineer/toolmaker can do them but how good are they going to be??
Over the years we had them by all and sundry
From: Germany, Italy, UK, Czech Republic, and USA, all of them are good, they do the job
Moulds, made by Alpha where very good
Second point
Why on earth do you need a manual? what for?
This is a simple four post press with an inbuilt hydraulic system
I do not see any controls on the machine therefore you need to get new ones
DOL starter for the hydraulic motor
3 micro switches so as to tell a $200-300 PLC where the platen is so as to activate some relays and power up the actual valves
One for press open at the bottom a second 1-2" before the very top and another press fully closed
You may have a high pressure system on the hydraulics, or a low pressure pump with multiplier ether way you need the middle micro switch
There are directional valve/s in the hydraulics, you can follow the hoses/pipes from the small cylinders and the main ram back to the valve/s than you will know what does what
They will most likely be two way directional standard valves
The press works simply
Small cylinders bring up the plate, there is a one way valve that sucks oil into the large cylinder
When the middle micro switch is hit High pressure is applied to the main ram for the final squeeze, these presses had either a multiplier with a low pressure pump or no multiplier and a single high pressure pump
Low pressure pump at around the 1000 PSI
High pressure pump will be around the 2850 PSI
You can easily establish that by looking at the pump specs on the plate
If you know what you are looking for you will see the pressure multiplier in the tank
I would look like a 4=6" diameter steel tube with an oil pressure line going into it one side the other side will be into the main ram at the bottom
Any reasonable hydraulic man can draw up a diagram or you can do that your self
The PLC does the control as well as the timing
Nothing hard Filipe
Also
3 steam/water valves some hoses from and to them that's about it
These machines only ever had two timers heating and cooling, and micro switches as above, plus a few switches so as to manually activate valves
All worked well however one can do all of that today with a PLC
There is a post of mine here some time back with details of the valve functions as well as the timing sequence
I am sure you can find it
If memory serves me it was part of steam trap thread

Thank you , my hydraulics guy said the same , he would build a electric switch panel to control everything ...
But he was the same that told me the machine was electrically heated ...
It sounded too strange ... so he is probably wrong
There aren't any old technicians from this plants left here in.Brasil ...
Do you know the size of a steam boiler for this machines ?
Best regards
Filipe
