General question about cutter heads and feedback

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

General question about cutter heads and feedback

Right now I am using a Presto 1D head that I bought off of ebay. I was wondering if anyone knew what the frequency response for this type of head is supposed to be. When I use a new stylus the 78rpm dubs I cut sound really good to me. So it is unclear to me whether or not it would be worth it to upgrade my cutting head.

I have read that some of the better heads like newman have something extra called feedback in them. Can someone tell me what feedback does that improves the quality of the cutting head?

As I see it today, my clearest goal would be the ability to cut more durable and cheaper vinyl instead of acetate . Would a feedback type cutting head get me closer to that goal and if so which brand of head would be recomended for best return on investment?
