Let's re do the pre emphasis curve! I'm sure back then no one ever envisaged today's overly bright digital recordings.
I mean an 18 db boost above 1K. a bit much maybe!
Totally wishful thinking! I mean modifying all those pre amps

I have a feeling the technical brain trust at the major labels bought HD Vinyl hook line and sinker. They probably even gave them money. Suckers.
It's the same thing every time someone comes up with an improvement in cutting technology. Playback must be improved to realize any benefit. Playback is the bottleneck.

I remember reading that Neumann never did any cutterhead development after the SX74 as they waited for cartridge manufacturers to catch up and they never did.
I'm guessing the RIAA will define what constitutes "audiophile" as its a term that gets used everywhere without qualification and causes disdain amongst consumers.
