Calibrating VR t560 with daw

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Hello everyone! I use muy VR with muy computer, and i need to know calibrate well. I have this configuration:

I use logic pro with a UAD apollo.
apollo go to the main unit.
Main unit go to a amp with 0,77v. Sens.
Main unit go to the cutterhead.

The technics go to a sony hifi 90's with riaa and rhis sound go to a vumeter.

Ok i send -18dB forma the computer and recording them i adjust the vumeter to 0dB i tuen up por down directly in rhe amp to find the 0dB.

Someone know if i do al well. Is -18dB the real 0vumeter??

Thanks for all

this is roughly my setup as well, only i go audio interface -> optimizer -> main unit -> cutterhead amp. -18db is about where i leave my output. all wav files are normalized. my cutterhead amp is 300 watts per channel, and i leave both channels at maximum gain. for calibration, i created a continuous tone in audacity, normalized it to 0db, and started cutting with the volume turned all the way down (so i wouldn't blow my cutterhead fuses). then i gradually increased the volume, monitoring from the record, until the levels matched. hope this helps.

Hello, thank you very much for your information, I have a 2x 500W amplifier at 4 Ohms that I have marked where it takes 200W to not break fuses. I do not have the optimizer and talk to Souri and he says he does not have any for sale. what does the optimizer do excatamente? I am also testing with a riaa directly from the daw and replace in riaa of the main unit. I hope to find the solution soon

The optimiser is an entirely passive unit for controlling stereo balance etc. It is nothing fancy. All functions can be carried out in your DAW with ease.

yeah all it really does is center low frequencies and allow some very basic eq adjustments. it isn't really that essential, i just mentioned it since it's still in my chain.

Hi there, this is very good reading for me as I iron out the mistakes I’m making with a new VR.

If I understand correctly here, with a test tone at -18db out of the compuer interface into the main unit I should read .77 V at the output of the main unit?

How are you calculating this? Have you actually measured that voltage on the interface output?

A lot of audio interfaces have an output sensitivity of around +18dBu, so -18dBfs should give you 0dBu on the output or 0.775Vrms, but you need to be sure your interface output sensitivity is +18dBu.
