hi trolls
I recently went from a presto 5c head, to a presto 1d and cutting needle, my first time cutting, previously I had only recorded with the Russian alextation needles, obviously the change was gigantic, as the hiss grew also the recording level increased Considerably, I was doing the first tests on acetate sheets that they sell in my town at a cheap price, it was cutting without problems until the needle broke, I checked the needle with my usb microscope and the tip died, I don't know if it was bad handling, (I have a k8 lathe), or if the material I was cutting was too hard for the sapphire needle,
I write this post to find out if someone went through the same thing and to see if there is any tip not to break the needle so quickly,
Thank you very much in advance for all your knowledge,
andrex

Any plastic media; sheets or discs cut from acrylic or other plastics will damage a sapphire stylus quickly. I've found for the most part it's because sapphires that are meant for cutting lacquer have burnishing facets. They work fine for lacquer, but plastic will damage the stylus tip quickly; that's what causes the increased noise. If you can locate old sapphires made for consumer lathes which didn't have the burnishing facets, they might work well, but I've found that old stellite cutting needles are pretty good for plastics. They don't have burnishing facets and neither do diamonds currently made for cutting plastics.

Hello, thanks for the answer
I have been looking at aliexpress machines to face stones, I don't know if they will work, there are relatively cheap ones, I have a lot of Russian sapphire needles that could be sharpened, if I can sharpen them, it would be one less worry and I could cut cheap materials
I think it is a good idea, as long as the Chinese machines meet the objective.
