Hi trolls, Atom-101 user here...
I'm currently using a Myshank 462P with my Atom cutter.
Also have a 462 Synthetic (brand new) that I have not tried yet, I'm assuming it's a little better quality since real diamond?
According to the website specs the 462P has "less back angle", not sure if the 462 Synthetic does as well.
It was suggested I use one of the above 2 cutting needles for my Atom but I know he also sells a "462S", has anybody tried that one with a Vanrock/Atom and if so any difference ?
What will less / more back angle to with regards to the Atom/Vanrock?
Also, will my cuts sound better with the 462 Synthetic or will the needle just last longer or less before needing re-sharpening?
I'm currently cutting 1.5mm & 2mm Myshank 7" blanks with a 462P and its going OK, but before I progress I want to get a better idea of what to expect from each different type of stylus he sells and see if I should order a 462S as well.
Then I can keep spares of whichever one works best, I plan to use Myshank blanks exclusively unless an equivalent quality US based supplier pops up (with blanks that safely work with myshank needles).
Thanks!
Re: Vanrock/Atom and Myshank 462S vs. 462P & Synthetic
Hi,
i use 462 synthetic and 462P. I used first the synthetic one, it lasted for 150 hours of cutting (with a lots and lots of short test cuts), before noises came louder on different parts of the vinyl. Then I changed to 462P whose sound I found much warmer, but some customers said that it's not possible to play back the vinyl on their turntable (the needle is jumping out of the groove) and/or their bass is distorted. Then I changed back to the (reshapened) syntetic one (because with it i didn't had any playback issues before), and meanwhile i'm going to test the diamond with different playback systems.
That's only my experience, I hope other people will write different things.

Re: Vanrock/Atom and Myshank 462S vs. 462P & Synthetic
Hi!
After a year cutting with both models in my Hara M180 (same head as Atom/Vanrock), the 462P shank turned out to be more durable (and cheaper!). I've never got playback issues with 462P or 462S, by the way.
Best regards,
Fer
