VR vacuum pump
Hello everybody.
Can you give me some advice on which vacuum to buy for my VR?
Mine is very Noisy... vibration etc
I have read that the best solution is the vacuum pump (very quiet).
Which vacuum pump do you recommend?
I know this has been discussed before ... but it's a jungle ... and it's not easy to figure out the best solution for me.
Thank you
Marco

Re: VR vacuum pump
thank you, but the seller doesn't offer international shipping
Re: VR vacuum pump
I order this one some months ago and he delivered it to Spain from USA. The pump works nice, recommended. If you contact him indicate that you will be using for vinyl record cutting
Re: VR vacuum pump
At the moment he do not ship to the EU due to CE certification

I found this: New Player Piano Electric Vacuum Motor/Suction Box w/Volume Control
230V-Version: € 158,- : https://www.sectbook.com/detail/New-Player-Piano-Electric-Vacuum-Motor-suction-Box-W-volume-Control-220-240-Volt_kcmu1uvsyx1z001.html
110V-Version: € 167,- : https://www.sectbook.com/detail/New-Compact-Player-Piano-Electric-Vacuum-Motor-suction-Box-Ss1c-120_kcmu1uvwwxwvuwy.html
The images shown appear to be from the same vendor as the images on E-Bay.
But beware: I do NOT know this seller!
At this price it could be a fake site.

Re: VR vacuum pump
I think I have to find something in Europe.
This is the answer from the vendor:
The EU economic zone requires CE certification for electric and electronic devices - certification that is not economically viable for us given the small volume we sell.

I use a BZT Side Channel Blower, never had an issue, from Germany.

Re: VR vacuum pump
I also use this side channel blower and it works without problems. But it is far from "quiet"!
Re: VR vacuum pump
Why reinvent the wheel, innit? The old wooden boxes made by Lee contained an Ametek / Lamb motor. So, roll your own Lee chip pump... Make a small wooden box that can just hold this motor:
https://www.thevacuumfactory.com/product/lamb-ametek-116342-00-2-stage-5-7-vacuum-motor-220-volt/
Have a neoprene mousepad or similar in the bottom of the box for the motor to rest on, with its suction opening on the top and a circle cut in the top of the box for a vacuum hose to be inserted (and get the gasket from the vendor), and then put the box on a custom wooden tray with walls that has a foam pad lining for the box to sit on. This will minimize vibrations.
The pump will need to be driven variably for least noise, using full power at cutter drop and then dialing down the VariAc that goes to the pump's power cord after a few revs. I can't help you with the nozzle hiss, which is the louder of the noises made by the suction, and not the drone of the pump... Fancier if you can add a microswitch to activate a relay for the power to the pump so that the suction begins automatically if the turntable is revolving as soon as you move the cutter close to the platter. Then you add a 555 timer so that full power is on first, and after 3.6 seconds or so, it goes to 2/3 power or whatever works (e.g., 2/3, at first, and then 1/2, later...) - depends on if you use the same pump for other suction purposes besides swarf removal, such as vacuum-clamping the blank to the platter...

Re: VR vacuum pump
I use a Air Conditioner Compressor, silent, so I can use at the bottom of my desk, inside the studio, even make records in the middle of the night...
I dont use a t560, so I dont know if that large tube going to take too much airflow, maybe had to make that hole mor tight, and that chip jar had to put a filter like that mini used in motorcicles i guess, thats what I use, never let me down
