Automatic groove speed controller VR - Has anyone made one?

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Automatic groove speed controller VR - Has anyone made one?

Hello!

I am contemplating automising the groove speed controller, my thinking is to run another track about a second ahead which analyses the amplitude, then sends signal back to the groove speed controller..

Is there anything in existence for VR?

Has anyone had success with this, and would like to share (or sell) their idea, machine?

This will help immensely on the big jobs!!

Hi,

Here's an idea for a quick way to implement one. I seem to recall that the VR has an input jack that takes a analog control voltage that modulates the groove pitch. If you buy an off the shelf MIDI to CV convertor used for analog synths and Euro Rack setups, you can setup a DAW to add a MIDI track with note events placed where you need pitch changes. The CV converter will then change the pitch. I believe the CV signal is either 0-5 or 0-10 Volts output over the note range. You can also make smoother changes using pitch controller MIDI events. If you get that working, it would not be too hard to roll a VST plug in that looked ahead at the volume of the audio track and sent scaled MIDI events to the module to fully automate the process. It will take some work to calibrate for the relation between voltage and pitch. Just a thought...

Mark

The input is in normal operation (motor speed control via dial on front) when it is shorted. When short pin is removed the motor will run at full speed.

Thanks but I am not sure what that means?

Hi,

Here is a link to a post I made several years ago that may help.
