Best alternative to a vacuum platter on an 8n

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

I am trying to stabilize my groove depth on my 8n. Ive tried neoprene matts, sorbothane (thanks Mike for the tip), no mat and just the metal platter with silk screen mesh. I am aware that a vacuum platter would be quite a challenge. Any advice would be helpful. Tried multiple oils too in the dashpot, currently 50cst shock oil is doing best but maybe I should try something really thick.

painters tape. I use two strips to hold down the disc. easy, cheap and effective.

Ya but that doesn't help uneven lacquers. It'll help slipping and a little tiny bit of unevenness at the outer part.
