Stylus isn't seated in the middle of the head. How big of an issue is this?

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Hi All,

Trying to get my RoK Challenger up and running again. I did a test cut the other day on a plastic plate just to see where I was at. During the cut I noticed a pretty severe rattle in the cutting head. When I looked closer I saw that the stylus was off center. I am thinking that was my rattle. When I swapped in the original stylus it too was off center. Is this a problem that needs to be corrected, and if so, how? I'm hoping it's as simple as a new set screw for the stylus.

Thanks as always.
