Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
Ok everyone; Thoughts?
I have a few;
--
01) What is the availability of the unit? Will it be generally available to anyone, or only purchasable in the fashion of the T560 in that you must fly to a foreign country for training in order to be eligible to then purchase the lathe?
02) What materials can it cut in it's default configuration? It appears to be all the same as the T560, but the information I see seems to point to the fact that the unit does not come with a cutting stylus?
02b) What blanks are compatible with the lathe? Can we use Sori blanks, MyShank blanks, Spinnertown blanks etc? Presumably all, but it would be nice to hear something specific on the topic of consumables.
03) Are new cutting styli going to be available from the manufacturer only, or, will it be compatible with shanks from Steve MyShank (as just one example). Since it seems you have to supply your own shank, compatibility seems likely.
04) What is the reparability of the cutting head transducers?
05) They seem to be a bit more than ambiguous on the topic of swarf removal. Will the unit come with a vacuum system for Automatic swarf removal, or not?
06) What are the exact Power Amplifier specs required for the cutting head? This is important to know since this amp, as with many other parts required for use, is shown as something the buyer must provide themselves.
07) Will this unit have variable groove control or no?
08) how are the lead in, groove pitch and runout settings defined and controlled? Is manual linear actuator control available for spaces between songs or other needs etc?
09) And of course, the big one, what is the price + shipping?

Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
I have some familiarity with Dinsync because of their synth stuff, but this seems strange since they generally do Roland related analog synth/drum machine kits. I wonder if this was developed by someone else who is just releasing it through Dinsync. Their rep in the analog synth world is pretty good, their RE 303 is considered a quality piece of gear, but this is a whole different ballpark for them. But if it's like their other product it should just be available through their webshop when units are available (curious about their production capability.)
Some people on the synth lists I'm on know the guy behind the company, maybe they'll ask him about it. If any other info pops up there I'll pass it on.

That would be excellent, please do
Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
this looks very interesting.
I wonder if it will be like a Diy type lathe? Where you buy the pcb and components to build it?
i’m curious about the cutting head and if the parts will be easy to source and diy friendly with the repairs?
heres another view of the lathe i saw on the web

Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
A couple of people from the Analogue Heaven synth list spoke with Paul Barker from DInSync, and he said they will be announcing pricing and availability at Superbooth (May 8th-10th in Berlin.) Also, apparently they used a Reloop 7000 turntable on the prototype, not sure if that much torque is required or if it will work with something lesser. But we should know more in about a week!

1600€ for this is pretty wild. Can't wait to hear some test cuts

Actually there are some test cuts on yt :

Hard to judge without knowing anything about the cutting process.

Wow! That’s a really good deal. i was expecting it to cost a lot more from what people are selling vintage lathes for these days.
I’m hoping it becomes available and not end up being another Phonocut
Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
If that's the price, I suspect it might be a kit like their Re-303. Which works for me, although we'll have to see what parts you might have to source yourself.
Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
turntable and vacuum (cleaner), amp for sure. think he said stylus too...if they only can provide the stylus then you might be in for a ride. printers are 50 bucks but buy some ink carts...you get the point. YT "test" cuts don't tell me anything.

Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
We have helped people with these lathes, several V8’s are already in use. We have mapped a cutterhead which does sound really nice if frequency mapped and resonances accounted for. They take 462 or 362 styli type.
It doesn’t have an oil dashpot or spring suspension, simply a counterweight as far as I’m aware (Nedelcu can correct me if I’m wrong) so not sure how well diamonds will fare without dampening. For sure a nice machine, probably best for embossing and a good price.

Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
I've been cutting records with my V8 for a year now, and I couldn't be happier. It's fully compatible with needles and blanks from the usual suppliers. The price/performance ratio is spectacular. Nedelcu rules!

Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
This is interesting. Any word on availability or pricing? Is this just for embossing or will it support diamond cutting? Colour me intrigued.

How do you manage lead in, wind on and lead out on the V8? I haven't seen that mentioned in any of the Superbooth videos or articles I've found.discosdecorte wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 1:14 pmI've been cutting records with my V8 for a year now, and I couldn't be happier. Dinsync just updated their website and the lathe goes on sale tomorrow (June 1) morning. Price exchanges out to about $1700 USD.

Apparently there is an issue with high pitched noise caused by the motor when in FF?
Definitely can’t complain for this price and availability compared to what else is available currently though, so could be a good platform to start out with and possibly upgrade some components if you have the engineering chops?
Re: DinSync NC-V8 acoustic lathe
Thanks! I managed to read the manual just before the launch this morning, but decided not to pick up a machine from the first batch as the manual almost raised more questions than it answered. The motor noise on the wind ons when the motor is in FF would be a problem for us in theory, as we are quite often asked to have audio running in the wind ons especially on live show recordings. However, if the noise is barely noticeable I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be an issue.Big Al wrote: ↑Sun Jun 01, 2025 5:20 amManual here:

We are currently working with two modified VR T560's but were (and still are) interested in the NC-V8 as a backup cutter and for offload when orders pile up. As you say, for its price and availability it seems lika a great machine, but with the lack of information around its performance at the moment I'm not sure how it would fit into our workflow. I'm very interested to learn more about it though!
