Did I blow my TKV Cutting head?
Hello , i hope some people on the forum could help .
I was cutting with the TKV cutting head when all of a sudden the sound just turned off.
I checked to see if the fuses i used were blow out and they seem to be ok.
I’m starting to believe the speakers inside are blown.
Does anyone know what kind of little speakers he used for the cutting head?
I wanna see if i could change them out and fix it.
I’m sure if i contacted them they would charge a fortune for a repair.
I’d rather repair it myself if possible.
Any help would be great

huh! that's a real head scratcher.
I've had great conversations with Konstantin on Facebook messenger.

Re: TKV Cutting head not working
i’m gonna run some test to see if maybe my amp might have blown a fuse and check my wiring.
It is really strange how the head just stopped working.
I didn’t see any smoke or smell any burnt electronics.

Re: TKV Cutting head not working
Have you checked the impedance of the coils? Do that before taking anything apart
Re: TKV Cutting head not working
so i checked the leads coming out the head and it seems one of them is not working.
The other channel is working well as it passes sounds when connected to the amplifier.
But when i connect the other channel there is no sound from its side.

Re: TKV Cutting head not working
Again, check the impedance of the coils as then you can likely tell if it is a coil burnt out, or just a faulty cable coming from the head. One is an easy cheap fix, one isn't, so do this when you can.

Hey buddy! Just answered to your private message with some details. Let me know how it goes!

Re: Did I blow my TKV Cutting head?
Just wanted to update this thread.
i did indeed burnout one channel of the cutting head.
I was using a 1 amp fast blow fuse which was way too high for this cutting head. Kostix recommended i use a 500ma fast blow.
I sent my cutting head for repair to Kostix and he did an excellent job in repairing it and giving me info on certain frequencies that need to be tamed down.
i now have the cutting head back and it’s back in action.

Re: Я взорвал свою режущая головку TKV?
So what speakers or tweeters are used in this head. I don’t understand what kind of secrets they are if they can be bought on the open market. These are not your personally designed speakers or tweeters. They do not have any modifications. Anyway, sooner or later this secret will become clear and everyone will know the manufacturer and model. Why are you so greedy in this regard? I don't care, I use brand name Neumann and Ortofon heads for recording. But it would be interesting to assemble and test a dynamic head.
Re: Did I blow my TKV Cutting head?
Basically, you can use any tweeters that you can find on the market, given they fit dimension-wise the application, question is how long they are going to last.. that depends on the quality of build. More often than not, doing this kind of research costs time and money on sourcing different kind of tweeters and building countless prototypes and tests, which are not always immediate, so more time is needed to make sure something works reliably.
Very soon I will have an upgrade available with custom made magnet circuits and coils which will have higher power/level capabilities.

I know this thread is a year old, but I wanted to comment about what a manufacturer can consider a trade secret. Coca Cola decided not to patent their drink but instead keep it a trade secret. They did not invent sugar, carbonated water or anything else in Coke but they are a billion dollar company for it. It doesn’t matter that he did not build the tweeter. Someone got a patent for using surveying tape over an underground gas line to mark for future excavation. He didn’t invent survey tape but found a new use for it and got a patent. Greed? He’s a business and has every right to keep it valuable!Podorvanov wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 8:15 pmSo what speakers or tweeters are used in this head. Re: Did I blow my TKV Cutting head?
The new version of the head with Konsta's hand rolled coils sound AMAZING. Highly recommend anyone with the old version hit him up about an upgrade! I think there are at least 20 of the new Mk 3 version out in the world being used daily.

There is no secret about what tweeters were used. His secret, and he has the right not to tell it, is how to build the head, what its design is, the dimensions. And there is no secret about the tweeters. Any very expensive tweeters from $250, $500 will do. Both titanium and silk. The nominal power should preferably be 50 watts and higher, a wide frequency range. Tweeters, if I'm not mistaken, Konstantin used Daytone or B&W. In general, there are a lot of different ones. There is nothing secret here. I didn't ask for drawings or details of the head assembly.
Re: Did I blow my TKV Cutting head?
Hey guys!
I did not use Dayton drivers. The only dayton i tested was on the very first metal prototype head 5 years ago, it was a much bigger and heavier head and the performance of that was nowhere near to get the proper high frequency end clear enough.
The tweeters that I used on the heads that a lot of customers were/are using around the world, were meant for a particular car model, and those tweeters are no longer manufactured. Any clone from aliexpress of the same model did not hold properly for any decent levels, so that brought me to the position where i needed to design my own replacement drivers with fully custom made magnet circuit structures as well as the coils and suspensions. The new drivers can be fitted in the existing MK1 and MK2 heads and allow loud cut levels (+12, +18dB peaks) with good resilience, cleaner sound and better stereo separation. It took me around a year and a half of designing and prototyping to get to the proper design, and as Mike mentions, anyone with existing older head models feel free to contact me for an affordable upgrade (a fraction of the cost of a new head).
