Diamond Record Cutting Styli!

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Hey
All in this forum
Any one who wants on or two or more of the above Please post with your requirements in this thread specifiying your cutting head
I will than compile it for the diamond dude
So the sooner the better
Neumann style first cab of the Rank
Other cutting heads as they are required according to demand
Price around the $100 each (estimated at this stage)
May be lower but I doubted Higher it all depends on numbers per type of cutting head
There will be a USA source as well so local postage no duties customs most likely ex stock
About 3-4 weeks
By the way feedback will be absolutely necessary as we are treading hallowed ground with this
Cheers

Hi,

I'd be interested in a short shank style for a Grampian head. However, if they are only to be made available in the long shank version for Presto style heads, I have no problem cutting the shank to lenght. I assume there is no need for heater coil if cutting polycarb. Not that I intend to try, but would these work to cut into metal ala DMM blanks?

Hey guys
A point that I think I must make clear Since this is new ground there will be issues with them I am convinced of that
If people are fair with feedback in what problems they are having I am sure the guy that makes them will accomodate them with replacements for free
He is no mug either so he can tell if the thing was abused missused or just bad to start of with
I will talk to him about the following:
I think it is fair that any one buying one or whatever number will also get one extra included to start off with just in case
If it is proved that they do work with no issues than people can pay for the second eventually
Dud ones need to be send back to the point of purchase so we can see what problems they have if any
By the way WE need dimensions and samples of the various shanks
So send in any old ones you may have with your orders or better still now so he can get rolling
Cheers

Do you need a Presto Shank? I've got a totally toasted ruby. But the thing is so screwed, that you wont be able to get good dimensions off the stone, only the shank.

Hey All here
Once again
I DO NOT HAVE THE SPECS FOR ALL OF THE STYLI REQUIRED
Please guys
There is no point in saying I want a short one a long one one for this or one for that
It is like foreign languge to me
I NEED TO HAVE SAMPLES OR SPECIFICATIONS
I really hope that this is clear enough
DONT GET UPSET IF I SAY CAN NOT DO as I do not know what they need to be like
I sincerely hope that this is CLEAR CLEAR CLEAR
So if not all or any of you do not bother with it like sending in old shanks or specs I am afraid it will just be a blatant NO until such time as I get SAMPLES OF WHAT IS REQUIRED
Once again I HOPE this is CLEAR

I'm having a hard time finding any of the many Presto Styli I've ruined in the last month, but I'll send you one when I break another (should be any day now).

As far as the 'long' and 'short' of it (sorry), there really is no point in making two different lengths. Make long shanks only and if you need short, cut it off. There is no difference in the shanks other than length. I have several machines, both consumer and professional that require both lengths. I never order shorts because in some heads, they're too short - others too long. I just order the long shank and once I know what length works best for which machine, I cut to the appropriate length with wire cutters. Simple.

I certainly would love two or three for experimentation on my Westrex 3DII head.
