Cutterhead Stylus Screw Buzz (RCA MI-4889)

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

@Sameal what magnet did you put inside the webster? Ive got a stack of those things and none of them are even marginally loud enough to use.
I used some neodymium stock from evilbay and then closed the magnetic gap with some cut down "I" sections from a transformer I tore apart. I also replaced the rubber dampening with some left over rubber scraps I had.
(I stole both of these ideas from jesus agnews rebuild docs and soulbear conversations.)

I deleted all my video on it off my phone, but if you look at the very end of this refurb video, you'll see the playback

The video shows how weak the magnet from the webster is. (Ignore the gauss meter, I think it isn't very accurate and didn't end up using it.)

I'm running from the d.a.w. to an I.R.I.A.A. board into a mcgohan tube p.a. head. I think thats it. I tried embossing a bass heavy track and did not have nearly as good results. I'd like to try a new coil someday.

It's still a webster, but it brought it back to useable condition I think. Or at least destroyable condition!
