no, it came with my lathe when I bought it.. they never told me it was a diamond, I just assumed because of its coloring.. I just didn't know that sapphires could come in white.. I agree. The presto has no ground at all, and all grounding lead directly to the chassis. The only way I can see of removing it would be to hard wire the microscope, and stylus heater (use 2 wires, not one). I can then ground the motor using a grounded power cord.
