Scully Lathe & Lathe Expert - Needed ASAP on East Coast, USA
Hi Everyone!
My name is Liv Banks. I work in film as an Assistant Unit Production Manager. Check me out on IMDb if you'd like proof, lol. I'm currently working on the Bruce Springsteen biopic for 20th Century. Bruce is a producer and Scott Cooper is the director. We're filming in the NY/NJ area all winter. I need to find a Skully lathe somewhere on the east coast, ASAP. I know I'm looking for a bit of a unicorn here, but I'm hopeful this community can make a miracle happen. Here are some more details:
1. It needs to be semi-functioning. It needs to look like it works so that on-camera, someone can convincingly operate the machine. However, it doesn't need to actually record or produce any sound. The visual element is key.
2. Ideally, the machine is located within 30 miles of Columbus Circle in NY in somebody's studio or home warehouse and that place happens to both film friendly and period appropriate (able to be decorated so that it can convincingly look like 1982)
3. Assuming that #2 is impossible, I would then be looking for anyone in the US with a Skully Lathe that is able to be transported to New York and still function (visually, not audio) in NY. I would arrange all transport and I would probably bring the owner out to NYC in case the machine needs any fixing due to transport damages.
I will negotiate with the owner directly and make sure we can pay them a handsomely and fairly.
Can't wait to hear from you all! Thank you!

NO WAY JOSE - NOT MY LATHE - Your going to assume transporting a Scully from somewhere to NYC, you might as well pay the owner UP-FRONT insurance for $300k or more incase the unforeseen happens. May I suggest writing that scene out of your story board ): I'm not even considering bringing a film crew with shit loads of equipment and lights, cables, camera and dollies, ceiling trusses, etc. and a crowd of people in a small space.
