Rek O Kut - up and running... Some great pictures
Posting pics in a bit
Getting some great sound and no back ground noise.
I sorted out the problem with 60 to 50 Hrz - check out the other thread.
Now runs at the correct speed.
This is how is came original.
Dead oil in the motor - time to strip the motor down.
Back in action - thanks to a new head with heated stylus and leadscrew from Hamilton in Argentina
This setup works a treat.
The arm
The Presto 1 D head - thanks Hamilton
Hamilton made an adaptor for the stylus - but it broke in shipment.
So I made some more adaptors - to allow to adapt Neumann 320 Stylus to a Presto style fitting. Works a treat Hamilton.
A big thanks to the forum, Hamilton and my girlfriend for getting this old beast up and running.
I am now getting pump sorted to get rid of the chips.
Audio feed from PC via DC7 with filters to sound card to an Art preamp to Pioneer amp - using just one side as mono.
I am using old blanks - cleaning them first and then heating them via two 40w bulbs to 40 - then heating the needle to about 25.
I am getting a nice silent cut and great audio playback
I am also using a USB microscope.
Great

Do you still have the 78 and 33 rubber idler wheels in that or did you find a 45 one? You can have the alternate speed pair if you swap one out.
I think one of the idler rebuilders could find a way of grinding down the 78 one to 45 spec. if you want to cut at that speed. Factory 45 ones exist but are rare.
In the case of this turntable design the ratio reduction is done in the idler wheels.

Rekokut motor
I had the same problem with the rekokut I am working on. The motor was stuck. Also that friction wheel on the motor shaft which is made out of pc board like material was slipping. Have you had any trouble with the drive pin getting pushed down at 78 rpm because the spring wasn't strong enough?
The motor mounts are the most important.
Then clean the wheels, Bakelite drive spindle and the rim of the platter.
Very important to do this often.
You need to close up the spring and bring the wheels closer to the spindle.
Check out the reference section there is a link to a site to rebuild the REk O Kut motor.
