Allied Recording 6n style lathe feedscrew/6n feedscrew dimensions
Does anyone know if the Allied Recording 6n copy lathes can use Presto 6n feedscrews? I have one which needs a feedscrew. It looks very, very similar to a 6n, but I don't have a Presto that I can use to compare. If no-one knows, does someone have the dimensions of a 6n feedscrew I can use to try to compare (length, thickness, diameter of gears on both ends? Thanks.

Hi,
This may help. Many years ago, I made a feedscrew for my now long gone 6N. These are the measurements I took to make mine. Not that if your feed screw has any gears attached, it is not 6N compatible.

Do you have photos of your feedscrew? I've had a few Allied Turntables but never an overhead. The PResto 6N feedscrews (which I sell) didn't have a gear on either end.

I would love to see the whole Allied 6N copy... to see what the differences are between them and a 6N

I don't have a feedscrew, but someone got me some pictures and measurements, some pics attached. After looking at Mike's site, it's a 6d style feedscrew not 6n, clearly I know nothing about Prestos! Feedscrew is 9 15/16 long total including the gear, and the gear is 2.125 inches in diameter. Feedscrew diamer is .625, matching Mark's diagram.

Here are some pictures of the overhead. The head is not original, someone else took the head and feedscrew for a homebrew lathe. Original cutter head was an audax.

In my Allied, the feedscrew is fixed with gear (and ratchet) on it, like Rek o Kuts, but not Prestos.

Oh yeah, that's a Presto 6D (DSP?) overhead. Got one of those at home, I like it a lot. Not as stable as the 6N, but a good, solid overhead carriage.
Re: Allied Recording 6n style lathe feedscrew/6n feedscrew dimensions
I wonder if Allied made overheads or just turntables. I found a 6N overhead with an Allied turntable and a Van Epps overhead with an allied turntable. And if I remember right, I think Tragwag said he had a 6N at one point with an allied turntable. I ended up rehoming both of them underneath different Van Epps overheads. One is in San Diego and one is in Buenos Aires now.
