Blanks
Hey all here
Dietrich member here has some PVC blanks for sale
Look up member list dig him up and send him mail
You know the trick
In so far as lexan or PC polycarbonate is concerned it comes in square or rectangular sheets so it has to be cut to the round size you require with a hole drilled in the centre
This to be accurate is 0.286" + 0.001" -0.002" or near 7.30 mm
Not quite right as it is 0.2874"
The closest standard drill that will make a hole close enough is 9/32" which is 0.2812" but it will runout any way so it should be about right
Idealy it should be drilled with a J size drill bit and reamed out with an expandable reamer to the correct size
Any way the standard allows for a 0.050" runout so it should still be ok
So as a suggestion any shop that deals in Acrylic Signs Letters or fabricates Anything from Acrylic should be able to do it for you as they also use PC in some instances What do they call it in Europe? Plexiglass? I think so
By the way I am still looking for the reason Why this very odd size
Any one?
Cheers

I think the reason it was so expensive is that you only wanted 100 of each, right? You are paying for three runs of 100 records, you are only saving on the mastering charge (and probably still having to pay for a blank lacquer). You have to buy in quantity for it to be affordable. You still have to pay for 1000 labels, plating, setup, shipping, etc. It's expensive.fraggle wrote:i had a look around and got some quotes from differnt companies in germany and this was just a waste of time. i wanted to get 300 cut in total. 7,10 and 12 " and they still wanted to have bloody 2500 euros for it.

depending on the quantity, i may be able to help people get what they want polycarbonate wise. i get mine in 7, 10 and 12 inch circles drilled to size and its not too steep. if you are interested drop me a pm and ill see what i can do for you price wise.
all the best!

i was trying to get pc sheets cut. it was normal lexan.
they told me it"s so expensive because they mill it on a cnc machine.
as far as i remember it was 1,5 mm.
i reckon you are talking about getting blank vinyl printed?
@ mossboss
you are the right person to ask i think.
would you recommend cutting on blank vinyl?
people seem to have different experiences
quality wise?noise?
cheers dude

Cut On What?
Hey all Here and Fraggle
I am not the right person to ask really
I know lathes
I love them
We have a Neumann lathe that is kept up to scratch as we do pro work on it
Having said that I have to say that no one including me is allowed to cut anything else on it except what it was designed to do Cut Laquers
My direct experience other than lacquers is Ziltz, Zero, Nothing,
Ask me about Neumann lathes ask me about electroforming or about pressing vinyl or Alpha Toolex presses I can at least throw some suggestions
Ask me about cutting on anything else but lacquers I am afraid I have to plead ignorance
If you got any ideas of asking me to do it the answer would be a blatant
NO WAY
May be when the Presto gets fired up I will experiment and be able to make some comment
But I don't see that real soon either there is just not enough hours in the day
There is enough material here to make an assesment I am sure but than again it is all subjective
Best you contact Megamike in Perth he is the only other guy in this country that I am aware of member here apart of a few lurkers who rarely post
He may have some insight for you
Cheers

i left some feedback in another tread, but anyways thanks for the blanks dietrich.!
i recieved allmost 100 blanks in different sizes 7 10 12 " .
Ive cut bout 40 of them, some of them was to warped to cut others good, espesialli 10 and 7"
I had good results with the cutting, nice sound and its real black vinyl recs !
no heating, no lubrication.
but it wears out my diamant stylus too fast.. perhaps i can cut 15 recs and the bad chip and noise will acur due to a worn out needle.
but perhaps cheaper needels, heating, lube...? will make a more durable needle...

There are any amount of places in Melbourne that would cut you Lexan
How many places have you tried?
I bet you none
May be you want to ring around the ACRYLIC sign makers
There is a place in Collingwood that would laser cut you in strips as well if you want to, besides Lexan in any shape size or form
The yellow pages is a good start
Cheers
