VANROCK RECORD CUTTER

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

COOL, turntable transport, like the most ancient acoustic disc cutting machines of the 1910's...

I'm guessing it's mono. The lead-out groove is not locked.

I have updates for this lathe, because I have spoked with the owner, and he said me that had bought it on a japanese auction for about 20000 yen - 200 $ - ; the machine is mono, it cut only on 7" at 33 or 45 rpm.
It works to 50 or 60 Hz at 100V.
No possible cut on lacquer disks.

Looking at the case that this thing is built into, this is not a 1930's or 1940's machine - this is modern day stuff. Are we missing something here???

yeah - that definitely looks like late 70's / early 80's design to me as well.

Here's another unique Japanese record cutter that I've never seen before -

The playback video seems to indicate that there _is_ a run-out groove (whether or not it actually locks). And the translator seems to indicate that it does use acetates, though why they are gold colored here, I don't know.

Perhaps this thing was designed for making jukebox records? What else could its utility be?

I like the little brush (or vacuum?) which seems designed to take care of the swarf.

It's a Vanrock Recorder E-101. What a crazy record cutter.

Simon's photo of this cutter with the guitars shows the brand name as "Atom" and not "Vanrock".
