New lathe! K8

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

I just had this baby restored by Gib. Now I just need to learn how to use it. Quite an upgrade from my Recordio. I had to tell someone about, my friends don't seem to care about my nerdy hobby. haha

Thanks. Total bummer though, all three tubes popped out and shattered during shipping. Fortunately I live down the street from a place that stocks old tubes. I can't wait to try this thing.

nice! i just had a k8 restored by gib too. as if that isn't coincidence enough. is that a 12-string univox guitar in the background of that pic? if so, that's crazy. cause i've got that exact guitar too. it's like we're twins.

It is a univox twelve string. I love that guitar! Although I have it strung with only 6 strings at the moment.

I just got some new tubes. Now I'm trying to perfect how to cut with this thing. Got any tips for adjusting the cut depth?

I like how you can see the Christmas Tree shape to the grooves. It's like looking at it with a B.M. light.
