tone arm on rek-o-kut challenger question

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

tone arm on rek-o-kut challenger question

i have a rek-o-kut challenger and i need to replace the cartridge/stylus and the wiring in the tonearm. the cartridge that is in it now has a button on the top to change the needle for 78 and 33. can i buy this cartridge and the wiring new or should i replace it with something more modern? is it necessary to change needles to play 78's?
