Diamond Stylus Available now

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

During my last cut the chip wrapped around it and pulled that whole thing out bang and the diamond is still fine!

no, it came with my lathe when I bought it.. they never told me it was a diamond, I just assumed because of its coloring.. I just didn't know that sapphires could come in white.. I'm not a jeweler..

Yes they can
Does anyone have advice for identifying what type of stylii you may have?
I know you can get diamond testers, what about sapphire? There must be other ways of checking for these materials.

You can pretty much assume that if you have a clear stylus that it is NOT a diamond.

If it's red, its a ruby, which from what a jeweller friend tells me, both ruby and sapphire and the same . Ruby is a little harder, I guess.

Not sure how to tell the difference between stellite and sapphire, though.
