Nicrome wire?

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

How much do you need? I have a little... If you need a lot, Len Horowitz and Robert Van Dyke both have some.

Heater Wire

My old MSS lathe just used plain copper wire about 0.2 mm wrapped around the diamond with short fly leads to a pair of terminals mounted to the side of the cutting head. This seems to give acceptable results, although the wire does burn out quite often, the heating makes it brittle.
It works for me!

For messing around with, unwind heater wire from an old electric fan heater. I got Many metres of nichrome out of my old heater!

Hi,

Hard to tell by the picture, but it looks like a standard Presto long shank. The diameter should be .065" and the length is stated as 47/64" +/-1/64 in the Presto Manual.

When winding this onto a stylus, should I be careful not to contact the wire on the shank? Would that hurt my head or not?
