Fairchild 524 platter

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Hi - If you're thinking about mounting the 524 platter on ebay on a 6N plinth that would be a pretty tough job. Every Presto platter and plinth set are custom machined to fit each other. The well in the plinth will not be a standard size. Also the 524 platter has a pressure fit shaft. It would be pricey to have it removed, turned to size and then pressed back into the platter. I would look for a complete platter and well combo or machining will be required.
Good Luck!!
- Kris

Thanks kris.

it was just to build a TT with a custom setup mounted into a flight case for transport options and obvious protection.

if the shaft is pressured it would be a pain to sort out a spindle so?

thanks for the heads up on this.
