Alpha Records in Florida now closed??

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

I heard from a fellow lather who lives in Miami that Alpha Records in Plantation Florida recently (within the past month or so) closed. Can anyone confirm this and does anyone have any more info on this?

Best regards,
Steve Berson

Strange
A fellow who is a Local in Miami was telling me only a few days ago that they need a pressing plant there as when Carribean records went they got left out
He does about 5K of 7" a month alone
Would be interesting to find out if what you say its true
If so it does not surprise me as prices paid to the pressing plant are unsustainable
Most of the money spend in producing a record finds its way to the printers
Not getting on my soap box again but it is a fact that unless there is a real price paid for pressings there would be less and less plants remaining world wide
Vinilium has now closed its doors and if Alpha has done as well that is telling
No one goes out of buiss if they are profitable do they?
Cheers
Chris

Surprised that with all this new US operations popping up that an established one would close down. Perhaps they sold off their presses for top $ and retired.

They are out of business. Confirmed via mastercraft. I don't think the reason it wasn't profitable was a lack of available work. I used to send them a lot of work. The records were good. The office...
