what do you use for scribing tools

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

You can get a machinist's scribe but I find these to be a little too sharp. I made a metal rod with a hole and a setscrew to hold a steel phonograph needle. Nice clean lettering without the gouging and tearing of a carbide scribe.

I've always wondered what the Apollo scribing platform looked like... Do you have a pic?

This is interesting. I tried the Apollo scribing platform tonight for the first time on a test lacquer. I really liked it. I'd would love to hear more about what tools/instruments cutters use to scribe their records. I am using a dental tool.
