no sound from groove.

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

I recently read a posting regarding a troll cutting but getting no sound
on playback
I am using new saphire and I am getting sound at the cutter head
and can feel vibration at the stylus but only background noise on
playback I have tried adjusting depth of cut and stylus angle, probably something obvious - sure I read someone on this forum with similar problem just cant locate it
any help appreciated

Maybe recorded sound is too low? What cutter are you using? Maybe you applying too much pressure on the head while cutting?

Just to confirm, are you cutting or 'embossing'?
If cutting, what does the chip look like? (eg. is it grey/shiny, thick/thin etc.)

hmmm... I don't know this cutter. I had a similar thing with Audax h4. When it came I got sound from it and thought everything is ok. But when cutting I got very low sound.
I took apart and saw that rubbers used as dampers where worn out or got exhausted through time. Then I changes to what I had on hand - and that was 1mm silicon technical rubber. Worked better after all.

Maybe you have the same problem?

Then it would emboss not cut. As Emidisc stated he is getting a good swarf... And even if embossing there should be ANY reflection of sound.... :)

Emidisc what material are you cutting on?
