Presto 8DG lathe question

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Presto 8DG lathe question

Hi everyone! I'd like to know your opinions about the Presto 8DG lathe. Had anyone got one of them and can tell me?

I know that the best, as far i know, are the Scully and Neumann lathes, but i'm trying to find some good stuff but cheaper...

What do you think? With a SC99 cutterhead and different types of stylus, can i cut on acetate for later pressing (rubi, zaphire...) and cut on PVC too (diamond)?

Ameise have the presto with the SC99 for lacquer cutting. So maybe get one of their pressings and have a listen.

Hi,
I have the 14-B lathe which is the fanciest Presto, mine has a Westrex mount as well. The 8DG is almost as good but I don’t think it could hold a 3D or 2B head though!)

I have a friend in London who would like to sell a fully working 8DG.
