The big question about the blank records of nowadays!

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

The big question about the blank records of nowadays!

Hello brothers!

As we know Souris or myshank black records are not even black, they are covered by 0,2mm transparent layer on both sides.

If this is truth, then why they don't create colored blanks? If the black part is an inside layer which does not affect the transparent layer,
then I can't understand why they sell only black blanks?

More, the white blanks I think is another story. If anyone knows more details about these, let as know about! :)

Because the minimum of production is 5 tonne. And If I prodcuce red, people want green, and I have green, people will need blue....

Black : everybody needs black.

Yes, 5 tones is a huge order. But, the Myshank store is the biggest market worldwide!!! So where is the problem?
5 tones, 10 tones? All will be sold out very soon. Try and you will see that all records will be sold out, it's like the white blanks that you selling sometimes.
In now days I think that everyone need to cut in colored blank records, it's the higher selling period in the history of vinyl.
Make a quiz here and you can draw the conclusion.
we need simple things:
Black, white, clear, red and blue.
That's enough.

This is a real business idea.

while I appreciate your zeal and interest, I think if it were a sound business move MyShank would have done it already.
The world of cutting on plastic is much much smaller than we realize at times.

Just to put it into perspective
1 tonne of material will make 6000 X 12" records or around 18,000 X 7"
At real cutting time on a lathe that would mean a man will stand in front of the lathe cutting away an 18 minute side for:
108000 minutes
or
1800 hours
or for 75 days with no sleep eating or having a crap
That's only for one side
On 7" it gets a little better
It's only 54000 minutes for a 3 minute side
Or
900 hours
37.5 days
And that is only for ONE tonne of each.
Did I see 5 tonne 10 tonne????
Still no sleep eat rest or take a crap
Where do these people come from!
I'll be surprised if there are 10000 lathe cut records done in total since day one
Arghhhh
Chris

That may have taken around 10 years to do if not more.
And if these are 7" that's a lot of plastic a Lot of styli and a lot of time standing in front of the lathe.
At say around the 3 minutes x 17 k that is a long long time
Not impossible just time
Bedt
