Random noise with VR
Hello everyone, I am having problems with the Souri VR, I am trying to cut a disc without turning on the amp and recording small fragments of noise without any sense, I have also tried it with the amp on and with music at the same time. I checked the needle and it is clean and well, I do not know where that sound can appear
Re: Random noise
Hi, is it a second hand machine? Cheers

Re: Random noise
Is it like a ticking sound?
Re: Random noise
It is a machine bought directly from Souri, it is the first time this happens and it seems strange to me. I sent an email to Souri but I wanted to open a topic here in case someone has had the same problem
Re: Random noise
It is a random tssss of half a second, a second that appears and disappears without apparent sense, I also tried with the heater of the needle to see if I could remove it but no, I also checked the weight of the head and it seems that everything is correct.
Re: Random noise
Ah ok, just wondering, a few cases of new members got opened the last days and it all were bought first hand... Hopefully you get some feedback from the source soon too!
If solved, share your knowledge. Its good to have a topic /solution here, so others can benefit.
Building up a big vr knowledgebase with all the problems and solutions, here at lathetrolls... Would be OSUM

Re: Random noise
Okay, I received a reply from Souri a moment ago and she tells me that the problem comes from the needle, I've been looking at it carefully with the microscope and it seems that everything is fine, maybe I've seen that it's a little turned and not aligned, I've been now Adjusting it better to see if the problem comes from there

Yes, I know myshank, the needle I bought it from him, I just sent him an email to see if he knows he can be and he gets me out of doubt. Thank you!
Re: Random noise
It can be the diamond or also if you tighten the middle screw to much with unequal pressure it can cause weird artifacts in the cuts... happened to me before.
Definitely check your stylus alignement.... It happened in the pas that I had a huge hiss, removed the stylus.... put it back ... and right after the cut was clean... so it's good to check alignment.

Re: Random noise
Well like a pro cutter said once: We dont know everything at all either, were just patient, try a lot and cut cut cut.... Compared to them, have no clue about cutting records at all , but my comon sense say:
Ben is right, also be sure that the diamond is aligned properly if the cutting head is installed at the vr itself.
-> It may looks good under the microscope, but installed is something different (May something bend or not sitting properly etc). It should be aligned properly horizontally and vertically if mounted too.
Be sure that the heating wires are loose and not strained.
Be sure that your platter is running steady, even and not wobbeling around. (May the bearings are loose)
Be sure that the blanks lay down flat and tight, not having ups and downs while spinning.
Cut a silent groove without anything switched on, also not the feed motor. Use your microscope, have a look at your chip.
Investigate the cutting process beginning from step one.
All questions i had got solved by doing things with a exclusion process (and reading a lot here at lathetrolls of course).
Great Forum, great users by the way.

Re: Random noise
Yes, I think the problem comes from the alignment of the needle, I have been adjusting it again and tomorrow I will do more tests.
