New Amp on an Semi Old Lathe

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

New Amp on an Semi Old Lathe

Hi All,

I have posted about my issues on other threads and I think I want to try to hook up another amp to my cutter head to see if the problem I am having is in the amp. However, I do not know much about impedance matching. I assume I will have to get an amp with the same impedance as what my cutter head has. The only thing is, I do not know what impedance the cutter head has and also, I do not know how to measure that.

Does anybody know how I can measure the impedance of the cutter head? There are 4 wires running to the head... White, Black, Red, and Green.

Below is an example of the type of lathe I am trying at the moment. Its a Japanese Hara M180 which up until 2 days ago was cutting absolutely perfect. I have that issue posted in another thread.
