Simple Question on STATIC!

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Simple Question on STATIC!

Hi All,

I have been researching all through this website and cannot find specific information on all the issues static can cause.

Is the biggest problem with static the fact that it can cause noise or swarf wont be lifted easily? Or can it cause all sorts of problems? Can it directly cause the sound quality to suffer? I have been having issues lately with the sound quality of the records I'm cutting. It sounds as though its hollow and was recorded with a microphone put up to a speaker. This is intermittent. Sometimes it sounds beautiful, and sometimes it doesn't. Im wondering if my problem has something to do with static.

Thanks!

You might get some useful replies if you let us know.....

What are you cutting with?
What blank media are you using?

Hi,

I am cutting PVC 7 inch blanks with a Japanese Hara M-180 with a diamond from MyShank at 45RPM. The blanks are from MyShank too.

Thanks
