A New Source for Blank Records

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

It would be great if you supplied solid and translucent colored blanks.

These blanks work pretty dam well!

A bit more surface noise than traditional poly but I used the 2 blanks with Mikes sapphires and they sounded good. Definitely a viable solution in the states. Well done.

Still wondering how they work with diamonds. Anyone try it yet?

Glad you got some good results! Blanqs are softer than poly, so you might need to back your weight off just a touch, and that surface noise you mentioned should be cleared up. We use Mike's cones at Leesta Vall as well, and are getting almost no surface noise at all. Take a listen to a few cuts we've posted on our IG Story here: https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/17915283718143732/

I only had 2 so I didn't get a chance to really mess with dialing them in but they definitely cut well!

Thanks for the tips!

I tried cutting these with a diamond, worked great! Swarf looked the same as Myshank blanks, and noise floor seemed the same. Good job!

Just to be fair, my method was totally not scientific and I compared to a black Myshank blank. Also, I have no idea of stylus life.

If you are embossing, I sell White, Black, Smokey Grey and Translucent Blue polycarb. They are no good for diamond cutting, though.

Do you have 5" record blanks?
