Cutterhead Levelling Block

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

I got a parallelism Head tool from Myshank and it came with no instructions. No replies to my emails about the product. Can anybody on here give me some pointers?

Do you mean a “head levelling block”?
Does it look like a metal bar?

Loosen the cutterhead enough so you can adjust its horizontal position. Place the alignment block on the turntable under the FRONT of the head and lower it onto the block so that just the front of the head (not the stylus) rests on the block. Adjust the horizontal position of the head and tighten the head. Raise head and rotate turntable clockwise so that you can remove the alignment block. Your cutterhead should now be parallel to the turntable.

* Head Levelling Block.

Let's not create new terms. The original ones work fine.
