vacuum pump 2 stage

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

vacuum pump 2 stage

Hello

My current vacuum pump is getting old and making more noise than it used to. So I have been looking at new pumps.
I noticed that 2 stage pumps are twice as expensive as 1 stage. I understand that 2 stage pumps have have 2 fans/rotors in them, and are said to have a deeper vacuum.
I was wondering if anyone knew what deeper vacuum meant. I have read up on it, but still not sure if its relevant to our issues.
I guess what we need is a very contestant vacuum.
Any one have any thoughts?

I have also been looking at side channel blowers as recommended by SueDenim

What's your current pump and, aside from the excessive noise it now makes, does it provide enough suction for your needs?

I am getting a bit of swarf drop (but could be other reasons). I use a general electric vacuum pump, thats makes a big rattle. its about 4.5cfm supposedly.
So am just looking into a new one
