Nice job to everybody that does this kind of work.

Re: Splatter, color, and wacky vinyl records.
...interesting thread this...as we used to (unofficially..!) play around with colours at Independent in Nottingham - we came up with a few things - all semi legit pressings as we sent them out into the world without anyone knowing...sneaky way to create legendary LTD EDN records - people have been doing it for years on the sly...
What we came up with were pretty impressive, as we only sample bags of colours, so a very limited amount to play with - no pics tho, but they have all come up on ebay from time to time - check out these titles, if you can find them thru the interweb...
The Libertines " The Libertines" LP brown "smoke - swirl" vinyl - trying to characterise the lead singer blowing brown smoke thru the record, made by draining the hopper of nearly all black, dropping in some brown, and filling with black - the resultant pressings - maybe 5 or so looked like brown smoke "rings" ..!
U2 " Vertigo" 12" Clear vinyl mis-pressing - these were purely by accident, as the bead lorry left us a full 25kg bag of clear by mistake - so we used it sparingly , trying to get a handful of pure clear versions- at first - no matter how we tried, it just couldn't overtake the black thru the extruder, and the pressings came out with a fuzzy grey cloud, like a storm shifting thru the vinyl..incredible!
The last one I remember, and again, no pics, as we were trying to be very covert about this( 12 am midnight pressings they ALL were..!) Was one truly remarkable copy of Bjork's " Medulla" Lp, using the same process mikeOZ and mossy mentioned - taking off the cup and "spurting " clear vinyl onto a dish, and quick as a flash, throwing it into the mould, and see what came out...the results were stunning, what came out looked like a " cathrine wheel-effect" one long swirl that looked like it had exploded!
- highly dangerous, and I would NOT recommend anyone doing this - as we only used Toolex Alpha automatic 12" machines - not manual's, and we had a guy who literally was fearless ( Crazy?) called Deano, who would try anything to relieve the monotony of pressing endless amounts of black -(if Chris King is reading this- you know what Deano was like...!)
Using a Manual must be huge fun to a limit-less imagination - keep going Kee...!

Perfection to me is a nice cup of tea...and a day when everyone is happy with their records!

Re: Splatter, color, and wacky vinyl records.
WoW!! that second one is incredible! ... looks like a swamp! ...is it just a random sprinkling of beads that gets that formation..?
..was talking to a friend who worked for Damont Records (now closed) here in the UK, who did nearly ALL of the shaped picture disc work in the uk in the 1980's/90's, and he told me how they tried to do a shaped picture disc record for the band W.A.S.P. ( Blackie Lawless actually came to the factory!) called " F*** like a Beast" which was wholeheartedly banned in Britain everywhere!
So, if you have seen the sleeve to this record, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about, a shaped pic disc of THAT sleeve? Not going to happen in th UK..so a cunning ruse was thought up - a coloured vinyl 12" instead...ahem..in pink...and red...and ..erm.. steel?
..hand designed in a marble-effect...
...the Metal crowd would have loved it!
i'm told some test pressings do exist, although there can't be more than 4-5 as I'm sure they were scrapped....

Re: Splatter, color, and wacky vinyl records.
Hello,
This is my latest production.
It's called "Procession Towards The Unknown" and it's a pressing of nine one-sided vinyl in wooden box, numbered and signed by the artist. Each records size is approximately 11” and was pressed by night with special overheated translucide compound to get that amber effect. For some I also used two cakes of vinyl cut in half.
To get the "unfinished" effect I managed the extruder got me less compound but just enough to have the grooves well done.
Music recorded in Cairo by Samy Sayed, Cherif El-Masri & Sherif Adel. Art direction by Sandrine Pelletier & myself.

Enjoy.
