Record Pressing Plants, Gone Broke, Shutdown, Out of Business, Changed Hands

Once you have cut a master laquer, you have metal stampers created and have records pressed from them. Discuss manufacturing here. (Record Matrix Electroforming- Plating, Vinyl Record Pressing.)

Hi All
Thought it may be useful to have a topic on the above as at present it is in another thread that ppl may not get to see
So we can pop them here, maybe someone with the urge can get the ones on the other thread here to start off with

last i heared Deepgrooves is back in business, bought up by a real estate guy with a passion for music.

there is a documentary about his previous music project, about him regrouping a band he loved in his teenage years with himself on drums.
the doc has some heavy "some kind of monster" vibes, wondering why anyone involved would think it is a good idea to film this experience right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6-Oz66jlg0 (in dutch)

however, the guy clearly has a sense for business and money to burn, so maybe he can make it work.

Yep It seems that the resurrection is proceeding quite well There are quite a few posts on Linked in by Arnaoud that certainly gives one more than a glimpse of that rather arduous hard process, one must respect that
It seems that the Coffee man has been putting in the hard yards into it with his team, fantastic effort by any account, the last owner(s) is hiding in the bush
It seems and its only a guess, the previous operators burned a lot of people, extrapolating some of the Lin posts I guess that about Euro 500 K evaporated from clients, deposits, orders paid for in full than not delivered etc
Who knows how much the suppliers lost in there, PVC compounders, power co, gas co, landlord, finally investors and their own money, a real shame, it cannot be peanuts either.
Of course since it was a Liquidation of the old co, all the information is public, but it would be in Dutch, may be if any one here is based in the Netherlands can get it and give us a snapshot of the report to creditors,
When one starts with Deeptrax then you goes into Deepgrooves it is better you don't hit the substrate, the cut is ruined

Sure that's what I've heard too. Posting in this thread only with a verifiable source though.

I heard Cascade closed?

I also know of a couple "pressing plants" out there that have closed or slowed considerably due to various issues, but don't tell anyone because they are currently just brokering and don't want anyone to know they aren't pressing themselves.

I can give an update on the US market which is mostly positive in that there are more resurrections than new closures.

Resurrected
VRP (Jacksonville, FL) - Re opened as Grave Face Record Pressing
Softwax (Philadelphia, PA) - Re opened as Hellbender Philly (a branch of Hellbender Pittsburgh).

Closed
33 Grooves (Ventura, CA)

Cascade seems to be winding down but are still pressing so I won't include them on the closed list until it is official. Am I missing anyone?

Hand Drawn has been just brokering for the last year or two due to their loss of lease. First was at Furnace and now is at Echo Base. Rumor has it Echo Base is purchasing their presses but nothing public.
Cascade has a deal with a plant in Europe that is handling the rest of their pressings as they wind down.

Sunpress Vinyl rebranded to New Press Vinyl in late 2023/early 2024. A few of us were laid off as they scaled back heavily, then it looks like it closed for a bit closer to the end of 2024, at which point it was resurrected by a record label from LA... Licorice Pizza I believe. Last I heard they are still working as of this post, same machines (1x Miller Hamilton Tracy Val Co, 2x Hamilton 225, and a Lenedthough I'm not sure if all are operational, last time I was there to visit some of the machines were in various states of disrepair)

Learned a lot from Stan Getz there, unfortunately did not get to ask him much about cutting but I learned a lot about pressing, I have a lot of docs and processes that I self-wrote during my time there. Quite the rock n roll operation, opened in the late 70s Joe Gibbs' place then it became Finyl Vinyl I think and then Sun Press. Pics of Bob Marley there in the late 70s.
