Did you mean that we should simply examine our change from the teller at the supermarket and keep the pre-1985 Canadian nickels (or the non-WWII US ones)? Or do you mean look for the CD section and get something by Nickelback? Those half-dismes have no nickel.

Also, can plating introduce a strain line that transverses the master's grooves and results in pressings that have audible groove echo even if the master, itself, did not?

Man what the hell do you say to a request like that
The stupid part about it is that the Russians are the largest suppliers of that stuff having got control of major nickel suppliers worldwide
Still you got to have a smirk in your face
I would be hard pressed to make any stampers out of nickels now days around the 20's issued yes
Since than forget it
By the way around the 60's there was a real shortage of penny's in the UK and Australia
What come out was that the Japs where buying them and melting them down for copper
There was something like 4 p worth in every one of them due to a market spike or a shortage cant remember
So getting your metal in a supermarket is not as silly as it may sound
