Re: Audiodisc Name Change (Apollo Dubplates, Reference Lites
Do any trolls know of a effective way of stripping old dubs down to the aluminium substrate so that they can then be sent for scrap? recyclers appear reluctant to take them with coating.
I have tried boiling water on them but this does not work well.

I am not an expert but try acetone (nail varnish remover) but not whilst smoking or in an unventilated room.

I'd use paint remover. The coating is, after all, paint.emidisc wrote:Do any trolls know of a effective way of stripping old dubs down to the aluminium substrate so that they can then be sent for scrap? recyclers appear reluctant to take them with coating.

Soak them in a metal tub of MEK, Methyl Ethyl Ketone. The coating will come off real fast.
Watch out though, Use in a well ventilated area and keep away from heat and flame.
A pretty nasty solvent. MEk will go a long way and will clean a lot of disks.
