AMI Continental 2 Jukebox Cuts
Looking for any advice regarding cutting one-off discs for this jukebox.
In particular I am interested to know about the parameters (lead-in, program, lead-out, lock-off positions).
Last thing I want is for the audio to start late / finish early / get stuck on loop.
Thanks

Re: AMI Continental 2 Jukebox Cuts
Hi Henry,
When cutting jukebox records I try to extend the lead-in area a little to allow more tolerance for the jukebox mechanism set down position variations.
The end lock groove position is the standard, but (again) I try not to cut the program too close to allow for badly adjusted end cut off switches.
Of course, all this relies on the program not being overly long. If the client wants a 4+ minute side then all bets are off!
That of any use mate?

Hey! Long time, hope you are good.
Yeah that's super helpful thanks. Do you have any measurements I could use?

Re: AMI Continental 2 Jukebox Cuts
Follow up question... what thickness is best? 2mm? 1.5mm? ... 1mm?
Re: AMI Continental 2 Jukebox Cuts
I don't have any experience of that particular AMI (or not knowingly anyway) but I recently did a load of discs that went in a '57 Wurlitzer 2100 on 1.5mm and they all played perfectly. I believe 2mm can cause issues with the mechanisms on many models, so best to play safe.
Re: AMI Continental 2 Jukebox Cuts
Sorry for the delay in my reply Henry!
Yes, as PLD says, stick to 1.5mm thickness.

Re: AMI Continental 2 Jukebox Cuts
I haven t had any problems with 2mm They work fine in seeburg 100 mech that plays vertically and in ami 120 the plays horizontally like the continental. I just did a stack from spintown . 100 lg 7inch black cost under 300 with shipping and showed up fast . Also work in Wurlitzer 3300 same mech as 2100
Re: AMI Continental 2 Jukebox Cuts
It all depends upon how well the jukebox mech is set up in my experience.
The vast majority operate without issues with 2mm thick records, but occasionally some have a tendency to jam.
All I'm saying is that I've never had a client's mech jam when I use 1.5mm blanks so I still recommend those.

Re: AMI Continental 2 Jukebox Cuts
Too late! I have sent off a 2mm tester. Hopefully it will be OK, but if not I will suggest 1.5mm. Thanks again for the advice

Sure it'll be fine mate.

I do this regularly, standard lead in but you can’t have a short lead out of it will cut the track before it’s finished.
Here’s a cut I was doing for an AMI I Jukebox which practically has the same mech as a Continental

Yup, as predicted, 2mm too thick.
1.5 it is!
1.5 it is!
Re: AMI Continental 2 Jukebox Cuts
Damn!
It really is down to how the individual juke mech is calibrated.
Good idea to cut a test first though, instead of a whole batch which are unusable.

Re: AMI Continental 2 Jukebox Cuts
Yes indeed, I sent one 2mm test cut out with the caveat that it might be too large. I generally find 1.5mm to be too thin for 10 inch and 12 inch dubs, but 7 inches actually feel OK so I might just stock them now instead.
Re: AMI Continental 2 Jukebox Cuts
Yeah I've always been of the same opinion mate; 1.5mm for 7", 2mm for everything else.
