yes. happend to me a few times.
do you have cutter damping?
i normally had troubles with vinyl discs.
almost never with lexan.

and better use the once from steve or the once from vinylike.com
i use now the vinylike once but made tons of records with the vinylium stylus.
and in 95% it was my own mistake.
i use mostly with my disk-o-mat and in the beginning i had no damping.
when added and adjusted a little. stylus lasted much longer.
or for example droping the head when no blank was on the turntable..autsch...well its an automated lathe. so stuff like this hapened in the beginning...

also a few people on this forum use heated stylus. which until now. (on next generation vinylike i will use) i never used. only a lamp sometimes..
that should increase lifetime dramatically.

I've been told that if you aren't gentle about lowering the cutterhead this can happen. Letting the head fall down hard will cause damage and potentially weaken the diamond.

Is it actually chipped/broken via visual inspection. Or do you just have a lot of SHHHHHHHHHHHH in your latest cuts?

On the mechanics of the Dubcutter there is damping , you
can adjust turning on a little knob for lowering , so maybe
the damping effect did not take place because i lowered to much
and the damp was too stretched !!! I don´t know ...

I inspected it , its broken in the middle of the cutting edge !!!
I remember i had lot of trouble to remove the shhhhhh , it was
a sign !!!

I saw there are some people selling Diamond Stylus ... which
diamond would be the best for cutting PVC and PC ?

Thanks Trolls

I was told not to put too much weight on the SC - 99 head and to respect
90 degree cutting angle between Stylus and Blank , somebody got some
advice how to adjust this accuratly and which instrument I could use for this purpose !

I use the original Vinylium Dubcutter mechanics .

Thx Trolls

yes, a damper is needed!
AND the MOST IMPORTANT THING:
the stylus must be mounted in the correct angle!!!
and, cutting angle must be 0degrees, everything
else destroys the stylus....
there are different sentiments about the cutting angle,
I think, it must be 0 degrees, perpendicular to the plate....
(I hope the words are good)

I'm awaiting a new diamond for a dubcutter/sc-99and am concerned about the cutting angle - concerned because I don't understand how to make the angle 0 degrees. Where is this adjusted?

The only way to adjust that is to raise the platter.
0 degrees is quite hard with the dubcutter. I raised the platter to get between 0-2 degrees or something.

Fraggle,

Thanks your answer made me feel less stupid, because I concluded that was all I could do.

Has this method generally avoided problems with diamond/poly cuts?]

Ok I managed to lower the head !
So what i try is to release the spring so the head goes down and try to get this 90 degree to the plate , has anybody has suggestion how i can measure the angle with precision between diamond stylus and plate , which instrument do you use ?

hey

i remember i have read in the red book about finding the right angle.

the aluminum tools were used. it has to be the height of a stylus with the conical shank as stylus and with a bar is couple of cm long. It should lay down on the plater and thats how you get 90 degrees.

i don't know if I am clear about it but if you have the book you will definitely find article about it. I haven tried it but will try to find some time to make it.

I think I will take aluminum bar in height of stone. drill the hole as close as I can to the stone dia. Then will insert the damaged stylus with glue and that would be quite good tool for adjusting.

So, Audiofiligram, did you ever achieve a better cutting angle? How are the cuts turning out?
